Over $1.5 Million investment

January 13, 2006 the University saw its campaigning efforts answered. The Ministry of Culture and Communications of Quebec, Heritage Canada, the City of Sherbrooke, the Conference regionale des élus, and Bishop’s University collectively granted $1.5 million to the renovations of Centennial Theatre.

Not only will the interior of Centennial’s Theatre receive a makeover, but new seating, house lights, and carpeting will be installed. The new theatre will have a new sound system that includes mixing boards, microphones, and lighting that will allow for larger productions to be accommodated on campus.

Centennial Theatre seats 575 and accommodates a variety of theatrical productions, concerts and guest speakers as well as weekly films.

Also, the Film Studies department announced the renovation of Nicolls 5 (N5) in order to properly accommodate the department. When asked about the new room, Dr. Wickens stated: “The renovations will allow students to get the complete “movie experience”." The makeover will include aisle seating for easier accessibility, comfortable chairs, and drink holders.

"The renovations to N5 are not solely for the use of the department. Keeping with the Bishop’s “do it” spirit, any student who is interested in setting up a private viewing among his/her peers, or organizing a weekend film festival will be more than welcome" says Dr. Glen Wickens, Director of the Film Studies program.
